Tell Congress – Hands Off Haiti! No New Invasion! Free Elections without US Interference!
Ariel Henry was not elected but chosen by the US government and the CORE group, including Canada, France and other allies. US support for Henry has only changed recently because it has been forced to reverse course. The US continues to press for a new invasion and occupation of Haiti and wants to control any process to establish a new government.
The legacy of US intervention in Haiti is destabilization and subversion of democracy.
The 1915 to 1934 occupation introduced racial segregation, brought back forced labor (slavery), and imposed a constitution that legalized foreign ownership of Haiti’s land and resources.
Reagan, Bush, and Clinton economic policies brought about the collapse of Haiti’s agricultural system by flooding the country with subsidized imports from the US.
The overthrow of Aristide in 2004 resulted in a flood of North American weapons, wave after wave of violent repression, a cholera epidemic, the proliferation of paramilitaries, US funded jails where people have starved to death waiting to see a judge, and a country that is in collapse under the leadership of a government they did not choose.
The new invasion proposed by the White House would further erode Haitian self-government and independence from foreign exploitation and domination.
Haiti does not need yet another US sponsored invasion.
