Send a letter to the White House demanding that it withdraw its request to the Colombian government for the extradition of Seuxis Paucias Hernández Solarte, better known as Jesús Santrich; and that the DEA drop its case against him. Santrich is a former insurgent who helped negotiate a peace accord to end more than five decades of Colombian civil war. The case has been fraught with irregularities and violations of Colombian sovereignty. The evidence is not credible. What the extradition is really about is undoing Colombia's peace accord and one of its most central components: a general amnesty for combatants on all sides, with still-prosecutable war crimes and crimes against humanity, truth telling, matters concerning political prisoners and prisoners of war, and extradition requests under the authority of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP). The Trump administration has been leading attacks against the JEP. The policy of extradition of ex-combatants to the US would in effect nullify foundational aspects of the peace accord.
