Send an email to the Peruvian government demanding an end to the state violence, that President Pedro Castillo be released from jail, that the illegal government of Dina Boluarte step down, and that the people’s demands for new elections and a constitutional referendum be met.
Following is a translation of the email that will be sent to Peruvian authorities and UN officials (Traduccion en inglés del correo a las autoridades de Perú y oficiales de la ONU):
To the coup government of Peru and officials of the UN,
I am writing to express my solidarity with the Peruvian people during this difficult crisis, and to denounce the US-backed coup against the elected government of President Pedro Castillo. His removal from office is the culmination of a racist, classist, and anti-democratic strategy pursued by Peru’s Center-Right from even before he took office.
I add my voice in solidarity with the popular movements of Peru to demand:
an end to the state repression and violence against pro-democracy demonstrators and the National Strike;
the resignation of the illegal coup government of Dina Boluarte;
the release of President Pedro Castillo from prison;
that the right to new elections and a constitutional referendum – as soon as possible, be respected, with no electoral interference by the United States government and its conduits, both public and private.
