Dear Senator,

I am calling on you to support the bipartisan effort to prevent the use of troops in or against Venezuela. It is up to Congress, not the President, to declare war. The Trump Administration is threatening to take the US into a war with Venezuela that would become a quagmire of violence and a violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty. Venezuela is already suffering an undeclared war in the form of a US military blockade causing widespread hardship. Trump’s authorization of CIA on-the-ground regime change efforts is the kind of foreign interference we would not stand for at home and that we should not accept toward another land. The excuses for this war are lies. This is not about narcotrafficking. Venezuela is neither a major producer of nor conduit for narcotics. We do not even have confirmation that the boats the US sank, and the people it killed, were actually narcotraffickers rather than fishers. This is not about democracy, either. The threat to Venezuela, like the tariffs against Brazil, the bailout of Argentina, and the actions against Colombian President Gustavo Petro, as well as the military occupations of US cities, are all part of a cross-border effort to consolidate a New American Fascism across the hemisphere. Instead, I demand liberty, democracy, and NO WAR WITH VENEZUELA!
