In a new act of anti-union abuse by Carlos Camargo, Colombia’s right wing Ombudsman, the Human Rights Defenders Union, SINDHEP, was recently expelled from the collective bargaining table for reasons that have no legal basis. This arbitrary and illegal act comes days after SINDHEP made a public denouncement of the Ombudsman, Carlos Camargo, warning about the risks of corruption, clientelism, and wiretapping of workers taking place under his administration.
Please send an email to Colombian authorities in solidarity with SINDHEP. Following is an English translation of the sample email in Spanish:
The treatment of the SINDHEP union representing workers in the Ombudsman's office is a serious offense not only against the union, but against peace in Colombia and all its human rights defenders, and against peace and labor rights around the world. Colombia is still the most dangerous country on the planet to be a trade unionist. Moreover, every day there are threats, attacks, even assassinations against human rights defenders and social leaders. As an internationalist, I demand justice for SINDHEP.
